When I first started quilting a few years ago, picking out a pattern was by far my biggest challenge. I spent months scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram, searching for "beginner quilt patterns" and "easy quilt patterns," but even after all that searching, I still had no idea if I had the skills to actually complete any of them. Seriously, I had just figured out how to use my sewing machine—now I had to figure out how to read a quilt pattern too?!
BUT THEN (as any decent blog post goes), I found the one. The Irish Chain quilt pattern. In true scrappy-maker fashion, I found a free version online that walked me through the basics of chain piecing and assembly. But even with that, I still felt like there were pieces of the pattern puzzle missing. What I really wanted was something that would give me the flexibility to scale up and add a border—something a little more customizable. And that’s how the Sugar Pie Quilt Co. Irish Chain Pattern was born!
To celebrate the release of this pattern, I’ll be hosting a fun Instagram Quilt-A-Long (QAL) from January 17th to February 14th. Whether you’re joining in live or prefer to work at your own pace, I’d love to have you along for the ride! You can sign up for weekly QAL updates through my mailing list (no spam, I promise!).
This pattern is one of my favorites because it’s a traditional, beginner-friendly design with larger blocks that make assembly quick and satisfying. It's incredibly versatile and makes the perfect last-minute gift. I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I do—and I can’t wait to see what you create!
